Next two States - Delaware and Rhode Island

21st Jan 2026

Since the flu put us a little bit behind we're doing a two-fer this week ... Delaware and Rhode Island!

We started with Alaska (the biggest State) so it only made sense to focus on two of the smaller States this week.  Plus Tricia and I happen to be fond of both!

In college I picked geology as my science, and ever since have been fascinated by 'living' fossils.  Sharks, Coelocanths, and Horseshoe Crabs

Delaware Bay and the Ocean beaches around it are the largest Horseshoe Crab spawing area in the world, and while Horseshoe Crabs migh be positively pre-historic, their eggs, and blood are highly important.

Medical companies us Horseshoe Crab blood to test the sterility of vaccines, drugs and other medical devices, and their eggs are a vital feed source for migratory shorebirds.

Our Mahogany carved Horseshoe Crab is a tribute to how useful this ancient sea creature is to modern life!

Now on to Rhode Island.

Tricia and I always enjoy visiting Rhode Island, and we have fond feelings for the State.  It always struck us as friendly, inviting, and... small!  Being the original Ocean State, we decided to mix it up and carve a Whale; but friendly, inviting and welcoming.

It's carved from 2" poplar planks, joined together and carved.  The tail/table section is carved with an internal steel support for strength, and the glass top is custom cut to 18" and is tempered for safety.

Our Whale Tail end table is all those things, and just like the USA wouldn't be complete without Rhode Island, this end table works well to complete a room.

More next week - stay tuned!
