Happy Independence Day!

July 4th is one of my favorite Holidays - mainly because as a kid it was acceptable to play with explosives!

Growing up as a military 'brat' overseas the 4th was always a big deal, and the fireworks shows were always incredible.  And as resourceful kids we typically found ways to 'acquire' our own fireworks, and set them off.  Happily none of these extra-curricular excursions into explosives resulted in any injuries, probably because we respected the power and unpredictability of these foreign made firecrackers.

When you're a kid on a Navy base in Japan and they're shooting BIG fireworks off right over your head - so close that the cinders and sparks rain down around (and ON you) it does instill a strong desire not to get any closer to the fire and fury of them going off!  So we were always careful with fireworks, and still to this day enjoy them on the 4th!
