From March, 1993 to March 2023
24th Feb 2023
Waaaaay back in March of '93 two college kids received an invitation to exhibit some of their artwork at a show in Williamsburg, VA. Back then this was a big event - Kaplan Hall was full of artists, furniture makers, clothing and jewelry makers, and quite a few other artisans and crafts people. We were a last minute addition, and had to set up outside on the walk into the venue. Being college kids, and having almost no money, we did the smart thing and built a 10 foot by 10 foot, three sided, pre-fab shed, hauled it from Virginia Beach up to Williamsburg, and set it up next to the sidewalk going into the convention center.
Looking back, it seems that luck was with us; because the weather that weekend turned cold, windy and rainy, and almost every customer without an umbrella stopped into our little pre-fabbed shed to dry off or warm up. And we ended up having a great show.
Times have certainly changed. Now, in order to get our work in front of customers we don't need to rely on a pre-built shed, or for rain to bring customers in. Now all we need to do is create something and post it to our brand new website!
For the next year or more we'll be adding new work every month, and sprinkling in some of our old favorites from back in the day.
For March we've focused on one of our favorite subjects to carve - Pelicans!
We spend a lot of time on the Outer Banks of NC, and Pelicans are one of our favorite subjects to bird watch. From skimming the water to perching on a pier, they are fascinating to observe. Not to mention being the inspiration for one of our favorite restaurants....
We're fortunate to have had so many good customers over the last thirty years, and we're hopeful that the same luck we had in March of '93 will continue for the next 30 years!
Happy shopping!
